Historic Local Homes

The Samuel Huntting House, built c. 1840, is in Stanford, the town immediately west of Amenia where our home is located. The large yellow farmhouse features the characteristic pedimented gable and classical entablature surrounding the house.

The Bird House, located near the Huntting House, also shows the temple-front architecture of the Greek Revival period, and features a pedimented portico and fluted columns in the Doric order.

The Silvernail Homestead is in Ancram, Columbia County. The home was expanded in the 1840s to include Greek Revival elements to its interior and exterior, such as eyebrow windows, monumental pilasters, recessed and paneled aprons under the windows, and the large entablature above the porch.
