Evertson Hill

site sustainabilitySite Sustainability

The site is designed to maximize sustainability. Approximately 80% of the lot was left undisturbed. In designing the landscaping plan, care was taken to avoid invasive plants, instead selecting species that were natively on the land before development, and bringing in healthy specimens after construction. The plan uses very little conventional turf; emphasis was given instead to drought-tolerant plants and irrigation is not required on the property other than on a limited number of very hot days.

In addition, the "hardscape" portions of the site (patios, walkways) were designed to be highly permeable, and there are extensive provisions to manage stormwater coming down the Hill: grass swales nearer the house and larger "rock chutes" further down the Hill where water volume and velocity are considerable in a major storm.
